    Resources are defined as bandwidth and/or processor utilization. A website is considered to be using "excessive amounts of resources" when it monopolizes the resources available using 10% or more of system resources for longer than 60 seconds.

    There are numerous things that could cause such problems, including poorly written scripts. A site that consumes over 5% of its monthly allowance in a day is also considered to be using "excessive resources."

    This policy is only implemented in extreme circumstances and is intended to prevent the misuse of our servers. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any hosting account that we feel is jeopardizing our network. Web750 will be the sole and final arbiter as to what constitutes a violation of this policy.

    If you're having a problem, don't just wait and hope it will resolve itself. Please contact us--we're here to help!

  • How do I transfer my domain?

    With so many different companies providing domain name service, it is impossible to list all the methods. For the exact procedure, consult with the company you used.

    You will need to know Web750's Primary and Secondary Name Servers to make the transfer. These are:

    Primary Server Hostname: NS1.WEB750.NET

    Secondary Server Hostname: NS2.WEB750.NET

    Our name servers are reloaded at noon and midnight (Pacific Time) every day.

  • How do I add domains?

    Each additional domain is $19.95 ($29.95 for private/unlisted) a year, plus $2.50 a month. The domain can be associated with the subfolder of your choice on your site, or you can get a pointer is $10 a year.

    If you want to add another domain to your account, please contact us.

    You can also register domain names that won't be linked to your account.

  • How do I change my domain name?

    You can change your domain name within 30 days of your order. After 30 days, there is a $25 fee to change your domain name on our servers.

    Send an email to billing@web750.com and provide them with your domain name and password, as well as a written authorization to charge your credit card for the $25 fee associated with this change.

  • Why can't some people access my new website?

    In order to properly answer this question, it's important to understand how the Internet works. While this is a very simplified explanation, it will hopefully give you the idea.

    Although you may be used to typing in a familiar, easy-to-remember name to get to your favorite website, in reality, each site has a unique IP (Internet Protocol) number assigned to it.

    Basically, every company that provides any kind of internet service uses something called a nameserver. The function of the nameserver is to interpret those names and turn them into the appropriate numbers.

    Each company who provides web sites (and there are a lot of them!) send regular updates about which domains are on their IP addresses--Web750, for instance, updates twice a day, at noon and at midnight Pacific Time.

    All of these updates are gathered together, consolidated, and the information is sent out to all Internet Service Providers, who then update their own servers with the list. Depending on the provider, this update can happen a couple of times a day, or once a day.

    Thus, a change, or "IP Propagation" as it is more commonly called, can take 24-48 hours to reach every user on the Internet. If you have just set up your site, give it at least that much time before reporting trouble, especially if you have some users that are reaching it no problem.

  • What is FTP?

    FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol".

    It refers to a set of standards so that no matter what the operating systems of a computer and server, files can be transmitted from one to another.

    It works in a way that is similar to the more familiar HTTP that is typed in at the beginning of a web page. The HTTP:// alerts the computer that you are connecting to that you want to view the contents of a file, like a web page or a movie. The HTTP also allows for limited downloads, such as when you click on a link and save a program to your computer.

    The major difference is that HTTP can't be used to send files, only receive them. FTP permits you to both send and receive, and transfers files rather than viewing them. Because the server doesn't have to do any interpreting of the page and organizes the data differently, it tends to be faster and more efficient, which is why many sites that offer downloads have an FTP option.

    There are two modes for sending files, ASCII and Binary. ASCII is a very specific way of encoding characters used for writing, such as letters, numbers, and punctuation. Each character is represented by a unique number. ASCII is used for sending plain text. What types of files do I send using ASCII?

    The other mode is binary. Binary refers to the way data is stored on a machine, meaning that the entire file is stored as 1's or 0's. Binary sends the file along with the basic information as to what type of file it is and how it is stored. What types of files do I send using binary?

  • Where can I get an FTP Program?

    Windows users:

    Although Internet Explorer offers a drag-and-drop FTP feature, if you are using any kind of script or need to set folder permissions, we recommend that you use a specific program like WS_FTP Home or CuteFTP

    Mac, OS X, and OS 9 users can download Fetch or CuteFTP

  • What do you mean by unlimited FTP access?

    We offer unlimited FTP access to your site. You can upload or download as many files as you like,  24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Does my FTP use count as part of my bandwidth use?

    All FTP activity does count towards your bandwidth limit. Your 30-day average for bandwidth usage must be within your plan's limits.

  • Should I upload in ASCII or Binary?

    This depends on the type of file you are uploading. Some programs, like WS_FTP Home, permit you to set this to automatic, in which case the program will send the information in the appropriate format. Otherwise, check the file extension (the letters found at the end of the filename after the dot) against the chart below:

    ASCII

    .cgi
    .cnf
    .css
    .ctl
    .forward
    .grp
    .htaccess
    .htm
    .html
    .map
    .php
    .pl
    .pwd
    .shtml
    .txt

    Binary

    .au
    .avi
    .class
    .gif
    .jpg
    .mid
    .ocx
    .ra
    .wav

  • What is CHMOD?

    CHMOD stands for Change MODe. It changes the access mode, or permissions, of a file. These permissions not only determine who can access a file, they determine what type of access the user is allowed.

    CHMOD is used on Unix servers. Unix sets permissions for three groups: Owner, Group, and Everyone.

    The basic permissions are r (read), w (write), and x (execute). The first part of the command deals with the Owner permissions (the person who created the file), the second part is for the Group permissions (Usually the group that the owner belongs to) and the third is for everyone else.

    If you saw the permission rwxrwxrwx, that would mean that anybody accessing the file could read it, write to it, and execute it. A hyphen would indicate that the permission is not granted. rwxr--r-- would mean that only the owner could execute or write to the file--everyone else would only be allowed to read it.

    These letters are commonly abbreviated to a set of numbers.  These numbers are arrived at quite simply--each digit represents who the permission is being set for.

    0 = Nothing
    1 = Execute
    2 = Write
    3 = Execute & Write  (2 + 1 = 6)
    4 = Read
    5 = Execute & Read (4 + 1 = 5)
    6 = Read & Write (4 + 2 = 6)
    7 = Execute & Read & Write (4 + 2 + 1 = 7)

    777, then, would be the same thing as saying rwxrwxrwx.

  • How do I put up my site with FrontPage?

    When your site is ready, choose either "Publish" on the menu or use the publish icon.

    No. Running of IRC software is a direct violation of our Terms of Service and will result in the suspension or termination of your account.

  • Do you support ASP?

    Apache::ASP is supported for Premium and VPS plans

  • Do you support Access Database or MSSQL?

    Web750 does support MS Access databases and MS SQL on Windows Shared hosting plans and with your own dedicated server with us.

  • Where should I put my CGI scripts?

    CGI scripts are executable from anywhere within your httpdocs directory, or from within the cgi-bin directory in your home directory. If you use Microsoft FrontPage, it is recommended that you put them within your cgi-bin directory so FrontPage will not change your permission settings on these files.

  • What type of CGI scripts can I use?

    The most commonly used programming language for CGI is Perl. If you want to use C to write your CGI programs, that is also permitted, but you will need to compile them in order for them to work. We allow users to write and run any CGI scripts. However, we reserve the right to disable any scripts that use heavy resources or are deemed to have harmful server side effects. The path to Perl on our servers is as follows: /usr/bin/perl Other commonly used programs and their paths are: /usr/sbin/sendmail /bin/date Note: If you are looking for the path to your home directory, this is in your set up email.

  • Where can I find CGI scripts that are easy to configure?

    Perlmasters is one good source: www.perlmasters.com

  • What permissions should I use?

    All scripts, as well as the directories that contain them, must be set CHMOD 755 (rwxr-xr-x). Important Note: A lot of scripts may instruct you to set your script's mode to 775 (rwxrwxr-x) or even 777 (rwxrwxrwx). We strongly, strongly advise that you don't do this. These permissions could permit anyone on the server to write to your script, leaving you vulnerable to hackers who could deface your site, delete it, or worse!

  • Where can I find more information on PHP?

    For additional information on PHP – please check Official site at http://php.net/manual/

  • How do I get a module installed that is not currently listed?

    Just send an email to support@web750.com with the module name, URL, and if possible, a link to the .tar or .gz file. The review process can take several days. If it has been more then a week since you submitted your request, please send a second request. Not all modules are feasible to add to our web server. Please try to look for other solutions if a module you want is not available.

  • What is the path to...?

    The most commonly used programming language for CGI is Perl. If you want to use C to write your CGI programs, that is also permitted, but you will need to compile them in order for them to work. We allow users to write and run any CGI scripts. However, we reserve the right to disable any scripts that use heavy resources or are deemed to have harmful server side effects. The path to Perl on our servers is as follows: /usr/bin/perl Other commonly used programs and their paths are: /usr/sbin/sendmail /bin/date Note: If you are looking for the path to your home directory, this is in your set up email.

  • Does Web750 PHP support IMAP?

    Yes, Web750 PHP supports IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol).

  • Why am I getting a Permission Denied error?

    CGI scripts need to be set as executable files. You need to change the mode, or permissions, of your programs with your FTP program, to 755 (rwxr-xr-x). Important Note: A lot of scripts may instruct you to set your script's mode to 775(rwxrwxr-x) or even 777 (rwxrwxrwx). We strongly, strongly advise that you don't do this. These permissions will permit anyone on the server to write to your script, leaving you vulnerable to hackers who could deface your site, delete it, or worse!

  • Why aren't my SSI directives working?

    Make sure your file name ends with .shtml. It would be very resource intensive to have the server parse all HTML files it sends out, and thus it does not automatically look for SSI's in any HTML files. Renaming your file with a .shtml extension corrects this problem because the server recognizes that the file needs to be parsed.

  • What does the "premature end of script headers" error mean?

    99% of the time, this is caused by improper permission settings. Make sure you have the proper permissions set on your script (CHMOD 755) Also be sure to also upload your scripts in ASCII and not binary. Failure to do so will result in your files not executing properly. [See FTP FAQ]

  • Why am I getting a 500 Internal Server Error?

    Many different script errors can give you this message, such as a misconfiguration of the script or syntax error. The precise details can be obtained by checking your error_log file. If you have error logging turned off, you can turn it back on from your control panel. Another problem could be permissions of the file or directory. Your script permissions should be set to 755 (rwxr-xr-x). We strongly advise you NOT to give your scripts the 775(rwxrwxr-x) or 777 (rwxrwxrwx) setting. Those permissions will permit anyone on the server to write to your script, leaving you vulnerable to hackers who could deface your site, delete it, or worse! In fact, if your script contains password information to connect to a mySQL database, we advise permissions to be set to 700 (rwx------) so no one else would even be able to read them. The same thing applies to directories where the scripts reside.
